(New York, NY, August 5th, 2009) --

Web publishing platform Buzzr.com has acquired Tipzu, which allows users to launch and manage e-commerce sites based on their hobbies and interests.

Buzzr.com, now in a private alpha, enables ordinary people and businesses to create highly sophisticated websites, deeply integrated with social media, without the need for professional developers.

“Buzzr and Tipzu have a shared vision of creating the next generation of social commerce,” said Edward Sussman, Buzzr.com’s CEO and co-founder. “The blended content and e-commerce approach of Tipzu is very innovative.”

“The Buzzr team has the technical expertise and passion to take Tipzu and bring it to the next level,” said Tipzu founder Chad Gracia. “I’m delighted to be staying on as a board member and business development partner.” Tipzu’s current sites – which range from crocheting to meditation, acting and gardening – will continue to function and ultimately be folded into the Buzzr.com platform.

Both Buzzr and Tipzu are based on Drupal. Buzzr creates a simplified user interface on top of Drupal, a popular open-source technology for developers.

Small businesses, non-profits and publishers who would like to be considered as alpha and beta testers are encouraged to e-mail Liza Kindred at Liza@lullabot.com.

About Buzzr.com

Buzzr.com was co-founded in 2008 by Lullabot, the world’s leading Drupal consulting and education firm; Edward Sussman, the former president of Mansueto Digital (FastCompany.com, Inc.com, Inctechnology.com); and Bond Art + Science, a leading user experience firm formed by the founder/CEO and former partners of Razorfish.

Buzzr.com released a demo of its platform on April 13, 2009 to wide acclaim. “A masterpiece, that won’t easily be topped,” commented Moshe Weitzman, maintainer of groups.drupal.org. “Just like Drupal builds upon Apache/PHP, Buzzr builds upon Drupal. It takes unusual vision and talent to execute a leap like this.” For a round-up of comments, see http://bit.ly/Egled

About Tipzu

Tipzu was founded in 2007 by Chad Gracia, a serial entrepreneur based in New York. The business was inspired by his success with ActorTips.com, the world's largest newsletter for actors. In addition to his internet projects, he has served as president of the Gracia Group for the past 13 years, a consulting firm that provides communications and political advisory services to businesses and
governments in the Middle East.

I have never heard of Tipzu before but I do have heard of Buzzr.

How does one acquire a website anyway? I mean with companies you have special people working on the matter. Hard to imagine to internet sites having a conference.
